Hearing more from UN right now?’

Hello guys we are back after a long time( we know!😃) and with a thought to show you all amidst the Russian Ukraine conflict:

At the time when the whole world is witnessing a war between two countries( butter-smacked by the media),  we are bound to wonder where did our school textbooks go wrong? Why is it that the power of global institutions is comparatively lesser in real life than that expressed in big words. U Thant, a former secretary general of United Nations, took the effort to ‘intervene’ between Moscow and Washington during a Cuban Missile Crisis. Where is Mr Secretary General during a raging war now?

UNITED NATIONS AND WORLD WAR TWO

After the end of WW2, hope was nowhere to be found. The lost lives, and destroyed livelihoods all sought a better tomorrow which was very perfectly promised by the United Nations.

https://www.un.org/en/coronavirus/phase-1-un-headquarters-staff-member%E2%80%99s-walkthrough

But that sense of security was short lived, as seen in more than one circumstance where the various subsets of the UN failed in providing an actual result.

We are all aware of the importance of UN- any heritage site being recognized by UNESCO or any resolution passed by for instance, UNHRC – but an institution that has to promote global peace and equality has certain loopholes in abiding by it as well. Like the veto power.

VETO POWER

The major shortcoming of the UN, has been the veto power of Five singular countries ( China, France, USA, Russia, United Kingdom) that influence any decision that is taken. This means that these countries can veto any resolution against themselves and their friends! This is what Russia is doing now, and USA does all the time to protect Israel. They don’t have to offer reasons as well! No side is kind and good, people!

Along with this there is a visible lack in the UN to effectively adapt towards any conflict.

Consider this. Before the Ukraine invasion, when alerts were high and bitter rebuttals increased, no UN official was observed in either Russia, Ukraine or USA. Another sight is that the UN security council seems to be slipping on and off because Russia is effectively vetoing any resolution tabled against it.

A NEW PATH

Self- designed

The UN needs to reconsider the meaning of peace( which comes with terms and conditions) , strengthen mediation, and become a skilled peace diplomat forging no sides! It needs to have its own troops so as to add more emphasis in what it says.

We are hearing tons of critical statements from the UN right now regarding the current conflict.

But moral support and dialogues are only worth until some point of time after which the power of a discussion forum begins to degrade.

‘ During a life wrenching crisis, we all need more than a ‘its alright’ best friend don’t we?’

.

Dear UN and all countries with interests at stake. We need an action now! What do ya guys think?

‘Woman- a citizen and a worker’

Hey all International Women ‘s day was celebrated yesterday! and celebrated every year on March 8.

While looking up for the past behind this day, we came across a website and found that the International women ‘s day is celebrated for two reasons according to UNGA( cited by Women Watch) one of them primarily being ‘to recognize the fact that securing peace and social progress and the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms require the active participation, equality and development of women.’

However there was a time when even celebrating the idea of being a woman, of recognizing woman as a social and a political identity remained grim.

.

There were other problems in face like transition from Monarchy to Constitutional Monarchy and then a Republic in France, World Wars, and the quench of power. To ask for the rights for a woman, was to merely raise a voice with inflection but which could not deter the status quo of women in the society. That is women being lower than men.

.

Europe, which boasts today of guaranteeing the most rights of people in its laws, was quite different in the nineteenth century.  This image did not prevail in the nineteenth century perhaps waiting for some realization, protests to change the stillness of no change.

.

Long working hours, and poor working conditions were problems bemusing themselves in the dark while we saw an advantageous Industrialisation in Europe and America.  Women were betrothed early and expected to run households. In Russia, women were an essential part of the workforce but were paid less than men! Poor working conditions and gender inequality gave the push to women to finally come out in protest!

From France which saw women demanding essential rights denied to them, to garment worker ‘s strike in New York which saw women coming out- women joined a greater narrative. One highlighted their gender of course, but the second intertwined their identity to that with a common person facing struggles.

World War outcomes saw many women taking up the lead. Like in Petrograd, Russia, women came out on the streets and opposed the food shortages caused due to war.

The opposition in Russia was one of the major events behind International Women ‘s day. The opposition to common problems transformed the identity of women and the way we perceive a female ‘s role now!  The world shares an extensive history knitted together by various struggles of common people for better working conditions and better rights.

During the pandemic peak, ASHA workers in our country India played a major role from taking covid tests and ensuring home isolation, to conducting vaccination drives and surveys and holding awareness campaigns. They have been integral in reducing the impact of the first wave of the pandemic. However, the condition of ASHA workers today is deplorable and categorized by irregular pays. A tweak of imagination will unfold the difficulty of facing myths, fears, prejudice, and reluctance by the people in rural areas all in one. This is what ASHA workers do though.

As we celebrate international women ‘s day, we must understand that it not only celebrates a woman and her identity but also takes us into the fights she made for achieving better working conditions and for coming out of problems. One problem beckons our attention now!

‘The Game( Ft Duo and Veera)

Hi all!! we two our back this time with our first collab. This is a collab with veera who writes really cool poems! Please check out his post we have linked it to! Cyrnomia is a wonderful delicate sonnet!

Now the game which we will bring about is the game which we all play. Everyday. More often we reflect than not! Some say we are the players in the game. But often we feel like we are being pushed and smacked by imaginary walls like a ball in the arena which is not a good feeling… This will be a dark thrilling poem and may unravel some feelings, which are worked upon by us to be buried.

.

Each day.

.

Everyday.

.

‘ The Game’

It’s a game that shall long be played,

Some fun jabs, and a few laughs.

But our Costumes shall be ruined alas!

Our efforts must not go in vain.

.

Bull fights, Fisticuffs, slews of curse,

Everything is prone to damage tad.

There is no ambit, only another fad.

Ending up at the correct side works.

.

There exists but one rule,

Once you enter the bout,

You can ne’er back out,

So beware, feckless fools!

.

But then again, there exist none

Fool enough to participate,

‘Tis not will, but inevitable fate

which none shall outrun”

.

So, stop the questions -the mow,

Befuddled moments, always in play,

Find your answers- in quests to gain

Or carry the burden- in brunt of throes.

.

We’ll need to be, in this maze

Fearless brave and bold,

For await mysteries untold,

Prepare to be amazed!

.

Mysteries befuddle and choices cost,

Victories and losses arrive in succession,

With momentum arrive abrasions

Carving your face utmost.

.

So beware, you unfortunate

Forced into a world

Whose secrets, when unfurl

Shall invoke terrible spate.

2)Walking by a seamless river,

Flowing without work

Stones Rolling as we hurl,

Lots of chapters to cover..

.

The mist of the eerie doom,

The dark clouds of uncertainty,

The perplexity inadvertently

The sadness, the woe the gloom..

.

A storm brewing upwards,

Cold trembles- a dementor ‘s kiss

Red eyes from the mist,

Eyes amuse at their pieces straggled.

.

The silent blue on side now loud thudding

Overlapping of opinions

Conflicted contradictions

The calm of thoughts, now flooding.

.

Floods… the silent blue trets

Jerks around chanting the name,

Name being sanctioned, holy rain!

I need an umbrella from being wet.

.

I lurk around in a hope to find

Someone something

A reason a calling

To make me stay behind.

.

But ‘Shhhhhh’, to never accuse,

To remember the rules ‘‘you feckless fools’’,

If my doubts become too difficult to mute..

“carry the burden”- the never ending muse.

.

3) Trapped in a hellish, tenebrous realm,

Searching tirelessly for an exit,

Ripped apart from within, bit by bit,

By endless suffering overwhelmed.

.

Wishing, every moment, a painless death,

While knowing ’tis a distant dream

Yet even amidst dark,a weak gleam

Of hope,fuels every miserable breath.

.

No joy to cherish,

No family or friends to meet,

No love to pursue nor seek,

As I slowly perish.

.

Unimaginable torture

Plaguing not body-but mind,

Eternal damnation, you find

Is of unbearable nature.

.

But this one game, this one life

A desire to truly live, Hidden yet there

In this arena, what others do is stare

As you and yourself strife

.

Challenges many,

Yet desire one,

Satisfaction of wants undone

To find comfort, if any.

.

This hellish field,

This infernal game,

But silently, untamed,

Munitions you wield..

.

Armed not of bullets, nor guns,

These attacks of thoughts, and judgement.

Turned into own achievement,

As alone I fight against millions..

‘The end.’
